Texas Rangers get some unfortunate news as they try to repeat as champions
The Texas Rangers now have more reasons to sign more pitching with the injury news that came out on Friday morning.
It was announced on Friday morning that Texas Rangers veteran Max Scherzer had herniated disc surgery on Thursday. He will be out till June or July of 2024. He will join Jacob deGrom and Tyler Mahle on the 60-day IL to open the season.
There has been no public comments from Chris Young or the Texas Rangers other than to let the media know about the surgery and the timeline for recovery. Scherzer if you remember was removed from game three of the World Series with what Scherzer said was back spasms. It forced him to be removed from the roster. The hope was that with rest he could avoid surgery and be fully healthy for spring training. That is not the case as Scherzer decided to go under the knife 44 days after the season ended.
Scherzer will hopefully be able to recover and be ready to contribute with a fresh arm by the All-Star break if not before. It is never good when a pitcher Scherzer's age starts having back issues. Texas is on the hook for 12.5 million for Scherzer this upcoming season and then he becomes a free agent after the season.
