The MLB and the MLB Players Association released a list of the top 20 most popular jerseys on Monday. The list is composed of all Nike jerseys that were purchased on MLBShop.com from Opening Day until the All-Star break. The report doesn't break down the different styles of jerseys but is simply listed by player.

Corey Seager is the lone Texas Rangers player that finds himself on the report. Checking in at #15, Seager is no stranger to the list. In fact, while still a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, he finished up the 2021 season in the #8 spot, joining fellow teammates Mookie Betts (1), Clayton Kershaw (5), and Cody Bellenger (6).

Jersey sales are an interesting thing, and many factors go into one's popularity. First off, if a player is crazy talented and off the charts extreme, they will rank high like Ronald Acuna, Jr., Shohei Ohtani, Fernando Tatis Jr, and Aaron Judge.

Another reason that jersey sales can spike is a deep playoff run, and specifically a World Series championship. The uptick in merchandise as a whole goes up exponentially when a team goes out and wins the World Series, and player jersey sales is no exception to this. Hopefully the Rangers will see some of this action in the not-so-distant future.

The final reason that people buy a jersey, is longevity. That can mean that a player has already been with an organization for a longtime, such as Joey Votto and the Cincinnati Reds. The longevity factor also is about perceived length that a fan feels a player will remain with the club. For example, Seager is a great player to invest in a jersey because of the length of contract that he has, he will more than likely be with the Rangers for many years to come. It is hard to spend a bunch of hard earned many on a player's jersey if it looks like they will be traded or leave in free agency in the near future.

Texas has a large number of players that could be considered, if a new jersey is in the mix for you. Obviously the aforementioned Seager, but also Marcus Semien or Josh Jung would be great options as well. Everyone has their favorite players for different reasons, and that is who they should go with when looking for a new jersey.

Pitchers seem to have a harder time getting on the most popular list (only Kershaw makes the current rankings at #20), but a Nathan Eovaldi jersey wouldn't be a bad choice. The guy is having a fantastic season and is a clear leader in the club house. And don't forget Jacob deGrom. He is out rehabbing from Tommy John surgery right now, but will be back before we know it, and is well, he is Jacob deGrom.

Seager is a class act, All-Star shortstop, and a player that is going to be in Arlington for many seasons. If a Texas Rangers jersey is in your future, as many fans have already proven, it would be hard to go wrong with Corey.
