The Rangers outdueled the Orioles on the road in Game 1 of the ALDS, and will look to take a 2-0 series lead with its hottest pitcher toeing the slab on Sunday afternoon.

Texas hands the ball to mid-season acquisition Jordan Montgomery as he looks to keep a lid on the upstart Orioles, who had the best record in the American League this season, but are short of postseason veterans. The O's will counter with Grayson Rodriguez, who is making his first postseason start.

This is a strong matchup for the Rangers on the mound and at the dish. I fancy the team's chances of taking a 2-0 series lead on Sunday afternoon in part of fading the rookie Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was up-and-down from Triple-A this season and struggled when he faced Texas, allowing 10 earned runs in over eight innings of work against the Rangers in two starts. This is a Texas lineup that was top five in wRC+ in the regular season and his below average Hard-Hit% can make for an issue against a powerful Rangers lineup.

Meanwhile, Montgomery has emerged as the key to the Rangers postseason push after being acquired at the trade deadline from the Cardinals. The left hander has faced the Orioles plenty in his career dating back to his time with the Yankees, but should particularly thrive against the youth of the O's lineup that was 10th in OPS against left handed pitching.

Fresh off a seven-inning shutout against the Rays in the Wildcard Round, I expect Montgomery to put up another strong performance and lead the Rangers to a second straight win to start the ALDS.
