Texas Rangers Opening Day bullpen (8)

  • David Robertson
  • Jose Leclerc
  • Kirby Yates
  • Josh Sborz
  • Brock Burke
  • Jonathan Hernandez
  • Cole Winn
  • Diego Castillo (NRI)

There are a few question marks in the Rangers bullpen, but there are also some slam dunks as well. Though Robertson hasn't pitched yet this spring, the veteran is expected to be part of the Rangers Opening Day roster. Will Robertson be the Rangers closer in 2024? That remains to be seen.

Rangers fans are, of course, skeptical following some of Leclerc's outings last season and during the playoffs. Texas also brought in Yates to help bolster the back end of the Rangers bullpen heading into the upcoming season.

Diego Castillo, a non-roster invitee who has minor league options remaining, hasn't allowed a run this spring. If that type of performance continues, there's a chance Castillo secures a spot on the Rangers Opening Day roster.

If Texas is looking for a swingman, a pitcher who can work as a spot starter or come out of the bullpen in Winn could be part of the equation. The former first-round pick has racked up the punchouts this spring, but he's also allowed some big flies. Winn is in the mix with non-roster invitee Danny Duffy, Jesus Tinoco and the aforementioned Castillo.

Finally, the trio of Sborz, Burke, and Hernandez should all be able to catch a flight from Arizona back to Arlington ahead of Opening Day and be on the field when Rangers are surrounded by 40,000 screaming fans at Globe Life Field.
