Spring training is an opportunity for prospects to get on fans' radars. The Texas Rangers have seen plenty of that this spring, with Wyatt Langford going on a rampage and both Justin Foscue and Sebastian Walcott impressing as well. However, a name that has gotten lost in the shuffle at times, but who has had a fantastic spring, is Cam Cauley.

Rangers fans may remember that Cauley had a really strong camp last year as well. After a fairly mediocre 2023 season in Low-A and High-A last year, Texas' third-round pick in the 2021 draft came into spring training with little of the fanfare that Langford and the other top Rangers prospects had. With another spring training winding down, Cauley has once again opened a lot of eyes.

In 12 games this spring, Cauley slashed .375/.444/.750 with three extra-base hits along the way. While his Opening Day roster chances remain next to zero, he has made the most of his opportunities, and that includes a very strong performance in last week's Spring Breakout game.

Texas Rangers prospect Cam Cauley continued his breakout performance this spring

The Spring Breakout series was a slate of games where each team assembled rosters of their top prospects to battle it out. New in 2024, the whole concept turned out to be a great way for fans to get a look at their team's top future studs outside of the cameo appearances that they make in spring training games while the big league regulars get stretched out.

Cauley only got two plate appearances in the Rangers prospects' matchup against the Reds, but he made the most of them, as he had a double and a triple. When approached after the game, Cauley credited changes to his swing for much of the success he has had in camp (and in the showcase). That we haven't even seen Cauley in his final form yet should have fans quite excited.

There is a real chance that Cauley ends up fizzling out because, well, lots of really talented guys can't ever get over the hump and make it in the big leagues. However, Cauley is getting a lot of attention these days, and if he plays well in the minors in 2024, he will be just another strong spring away from potentially getting an opportunity to show what he has got in the big leagues.
