Texas Rangers prospects shined bright at MLB Futures Game
Emiliano Teodo and the other Rangers prospects shined bright yesterday in MLB's Futures Game at Globe Life Field. Teodo made history with his performance on the mound. Find out how the three Rangers prospects did in yesterday’s game.
The Texas Rangers have kicked off the 2024 MLB All-Star festivities around the metroplex. We have seen murals get unveiled, and had the second HBCU Swingman Classic on Friday night. Saturday afternoon, the next generation of baseball took the field in the MLB Futures Game. For those who don't know about the MLB Futures Game, it's when MLB showcases the next generation of talent working their way up to the big leagues.
Some of the biggest names in baseball, like Mike Trout, have played in this game. Jack Leiter was in the game last season in Seattle. The Rangers had three prospects in the contest yesterday: Emiliano Teodo, Sebastian Walcott, and Winston Santos displayed what they will bring to the big leagues. Let's look at how the Rangers prospects did against the National League in the Futures Game.
Texas Rangers prospects shined bright at Futures Game
Emiliano Teodo
Teodo had the most impressive stat line from Saturday's game. He only needed 14 pitches to get through two innings of work. 12 of the 14 pitches he threw were strikes. He also became the first pitcher in Futures Game history to toss two perfect frames. The fastest pitch he threw on the mound was 98 MPH. Some Rangers fans thought Teodo would make the bullpen after spring training earlier this year. Don't be surprised if Teodo is in Round Rock or Arlington next season. He has an arm that Mike Maddux would love to work with.
Winston Santos
Santos closed out the Futures Game for the American League. He was recently promoted to the Frisco RoughRiders after dominating with the Hickory Crawdads. He recorded 81 strikeouts with the Crawdads and has climbed the Rangers' Top Prospects list. He will return to Frisco to finish the season after the All-Star Break. He probably won't be promoted to Round Rock until the second half of next season. He's another pitcher who might pitch in Arlington shortly for the Rangers.
Sebastian Walcott
Walcott is the Rangers' top prospect and will be a part of the Rangers' future. He started the season with the Crawdads, along with Santos. He had a 92.6 exit velocity on his first hit of the game, which drew attention in the press box. Baseball America said Walcott's swing gives off "Oneil Cruz vibes." Walcott started the game at shortstop for the American League. He might have to play another position if Corey Seager is still on the team. After Saturday's Futures Game, the Rangers' future is bright with these three prospects.
