Texas Rangers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks prediction and odds for World Series Game 5 (Bet Texas to close out)
Breaking down why the Rangers are the best bet to make in Game 5 of the World Series.
The Rangers are one win away from capturing its first World Series title in franchise history after defeating the Diamondbacks 11-7 in Game 4 on Tuesday night.
The Rangers will send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound for the second time in the series, while the Diamondbacks will counter with Zac Gallen. Gallen has had his struggles in the postseason but can rewrite history with a dominant performance against a Rangers’ lineup missing star slugger Adolis Garcia.
However, it won’t be easy for Gallen as the Rangers are a perfect 10-0 away from Globe Life Field in the postseason, and they have a battle-tested pitcher in Eovaldi, who won’t be shocked by the moment.
Can the Diamondbacks push this series to Game 6 on Friday night? Or will the Rangers put the finishing touches on an excellent season? Below, we’ll break down Game 5 of the 2023 World Series and provide our prediction using odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.
Rangers vs. Diamondbacks probable pitchers for Game 5
- Texas: Nathan Eovaldi (righty) – 12-5, 3.63 ERA
- Arizona: Zac Gallen (righty) – 17-9, 3.47 ERA
This postseason, Eovaldi has an elevated 3.52 ERA after allowing five earned (one home run) in Game 1 of the World Series.
Gallen has a 5.27 ERA in this year’s playoffs but has given up four earned (two home runs) in his only home postseason start (Game 5 of the NLCS).

Rangers vs. Diamondbacks Prediction and Pick
Tonight, we get a rematch of Game 1 as Eovaldi and Gallen will face off on the mound. Eovaldi didn’t have his typical postseason start as the Diamondbacks picked up six hits and five earned runs in 4.2 innings. However, the 33-year-old starter racked up eight strikeouts, tied for his second-highest strikeout total this postseason.
In every game Eovaldi has started in this postseason, the Rangers have won. As for Arizona, they will need Gallen to go deep as they used six pitchers out of their bullpen. Ryne Nelson took the bulk of those innings (5.1), which means manager Torey Lovulllo still has his high-leverage arms ready.
Gallen struggled with his location in Game 1, allowing four walks in five innings pitched. He needs to stay out of long counts and must pitch around Rangers shortstop Corey Seager, who is the odds-on favorite to win World Series MVP (-420).
Arizona showed some life in the later innings in Game 4, scoring six runs in the last two innings, which should give them some momentum heading into tonight. However, the Rangers showed everyone they still have a potent offense without Garcia. Gallen will bounce back in front of the home crowd, but Texas will cap off a phenomenal season with a Game 5 win.
