Unlike last year at this time, when there weren't any positional players who had an All-Star game argument, in 2026, there are a handful of Texas Rangers putting together first halves worthy of a nod. Some have stronger arguments than others, but these four players have all been a big part of why the team is currently a wild-card team and pushing for the lead in the AL West.
Here is a ranking of who is most likely to be representing the organization in the prestigious game to be hosted by the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on July 14.
There's no way that Josh Jung isn't representing the Rangers in the Midsummer Classic
This one is a no-brainer when you take into account that Jung is currently third in the American League with a .313 batting average. His OPS of .855 is also third in the league at third base. Jung is one of the best stories in all of baseball after a disastrous 2025, and should also be a big contender for AL Comeback Player of the Year. He has been a steadying force while others have been up-and-down, and the team has dealt with a rash of injuries.
The only other third baseman who has a case to start is Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays. He has better power numbers with 14 HRs and 30 RBIs, but he is hitting over 30 points lower than Jung. The White Sox's third baseman Miguel Vargas may only be hitting .242, but he has 15 dingers and 41 RBIs, both highs for the position. It would be good for Jung to take advantage of what has been a subpar first half for perennial all-star and future Hall of Famer, Jose Ramirez.
Rangers relief ace Jacob Latz is incredibly deserving of an All-Star selection despite his lack of saves
The versatile swingman has been fantastic for the last two years, giving the Rangers an unusual amount of flexibility as both a spot starter and reliever. This season, however, he has taken over the closer spot and given Skip Shumaker a sure-fire guy who can deliver multiple-inning saves without a second thought.
The thing working against Latz is his relatively low save total. Because it took kissing some frogs before finding Latz as the closer, he has only collected 9 thus far. The league leaders, like the Guardians' Cade Smith with 23 and the Rays' Bryan Baker with 16, have a longer track record. But there is no arguing that Latz has been one of the most dominant relievers in the league with his 1.86 ERA and 0.62 WHIP over 29 innings pitched.
Jacob deGrom is rounding into form just in time to be the third Rangers player contending for an All-Star nod
Don't look now, but the big right-handed ace is quietly putting together a solid first half after an uneven start to the season. With his six shutout innings against Cleveland on Sunday, the two-time Cy Young winner is 5-4 with a 3.18 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. He also has 84 Ks against just 15 walks in 70.2 innings. If he can continue his upward trajectory, he will be hard to overlook.
The thing that could keep deGrom out is his unusually high number of home runs given up (15), and some uncharacteristic inconsistency over the first 6 weeks of 2026. Otherwise, it's looking like a pretty typical season for the leader of the pitching staff.
Ezequiel Duran is the Rangers' unexpected darkhorse All-Star candidate
No, we didn't have this one on our bingo card heading into 2026. Duran was coming off a miserable 2025 season where he slashed .224/.266/.293. He had zero home runs in 204 at-bats and struggled to find any footing or consistent playing time all season. Though he has been primarily a Swiss Army knife over the last several seasons, this year he is holding down second base.
2026 is an entirely different story. At .293, he trails only Toronto's Ernie Clement (.306) in batting average and boasts a hefty slash of .293/.347/.457. Duran also leads all AL second basemen in RBI with 35 and OPS at .804. He has been a plus defender, finally qualifying at 2B due to injuries to starting middle infielders, Josh Smith and Corey Seager. If you do a blind comparison between Duran and any other 2B in the American League, it would be hard to argue against him.
