Welcome to the Nolan Writin' 2025 Texas Rangers award winner prediction piece. Since we are only three writers on staff, we thought it would it be a great opportunity for us to share our predictions for team winners.

Here are our picks for player, pitcher, hitter, defender, disappointment, rookie and comeback players of the year as well as series of the year and a bold prediction or three.

Player of the Year

Beau Gregory: Wyatt Langford

I fully expect Langford to contend for every offensive and defensive award possible this season. This is the best talent in the outfield Texas has seen since Josh Hamilton and I don't expect him to disappoint.

Stephen Perez: Wyatt Langford

What Langford brings to the a lineup is undeniable, what we saw from him to close out the season in 2024 was just a fraction of what I think his potential is at the plate. I also think he is sneakily talented in the outfield and will be one of the best defeders on the team. But his most valuable skill is speed, either beating out grounders, stretching extra bases or stealing.

Malik Wright: Corey Seager

Seager has hit at least 30 home runs and been an All-Star in each of his last three seasons. I see him continuing that trend this season, as the head of the snake for what has the chance to to be one of the best lineups in baseball.

Hitter of the Year

Beau Gregory: Wyatt Langford

This is the year for Langford. We may see a slow start at first but I fully expect him to goo nuclear for a long stretch this season and looks to slot in the heart of the order and contribute big numbers. A 40/40 season is possible.

Stephen Perez: Jake Burger

Burger finally has a secure defensive spot at first base and a lot of protection before and after him in the lineup. I think that will allow him to get comfortable in Texas and really taking a massive step forward in his career. I think he will go for 35 home runs and 90-100 RBIs this year.

Malik Wright: Corey Seager

Seager is one of the elite hitters in Major League Baseball and with the Rangers adding more depth and protection around him I see him benefitting at the plate more than any other player.

Pitcher of the Year

Beau Gregory: Nathan Eovaldi

Eovaldi has been a beacon of consistency for Texas, rarely missing any starts and pitching a high-level in that time. Which is exactly what the Rangers will need this season.

Stephen Perez: Nathan Eovaldi

Just as Beau mentioned I think Eovaldi is the definition of consistency and reliability. Sure, he's getting older and his spring numbers weren't great, he will still remain Nasty Nate this year and be the ace of the club.

Malik Wright: Jacob deGrom

The success of the 2025 Texas Rangers looms big on the health of deGrom and I believe he I will answer the call and return to Cy Young form. It will take him a few months to get fully back into dominant mode, but I think late in season innings will not be a factor and Bruce Bochy will get to use the best tool in his arsenal.

Defender of the Year

Beau Gregory: Marcus Semien

Mr. Consistent at second base is not getting younger, but seems to be aging like fine wine in the infield. It seems that he may just be playing a different level defensively than the rest of the team.

Stephen Perez: Josh Jung

I my mind Jung is one of the most underrated young defensive players in the game. There were several highlight plays he made during the 2023 season in clutch moments. Jung will not only be the best defender on the team but he will finish among the best defensive third basemen in the American League.

Malik Wright: Josh Smith

Smith is an all-around defender on the Rangers and if it was not for Corey Seager's $300 million contract, he would be the team's starting shortstop. Smith will serve as a super utility player this season, getting time at every position outside of catcher and pitcher.

Constructing the ideal Rangers lineup ahead of 2025 Opening Day

Comeback Player of the Year

Beau Gregory: Jacob deGrom

While we won't see the Cy Young campaign this year, a healthy deGrom is the best pitcher in baseball. With a positive outlook for 2025, we may be looking at a renaissance year for this generation's best pitcher.

Stephen Perez: Adolis Garcia

He set his sights on 50 home runs this season and I believe him. He went to work in the offseason to transform his swing and stance and this spring he's seen the success, hitting over .300 with a couple of extra base hits. He took the 2024 season personal and he will not disapoint this year.

Malik Wright: Jacob deGrom

The Rangers have yet to get their money's worth after signing the top pitcher in the league in 2023. Following his first full offseason in years, I think we will see his name in contention for his third career Cy Young.

Disappointment of the Year

Beau Gregory: Jonah Heim

I sadly think we've seen the peak of Heim's career. With Higashioka flanking him, I'm not sure if Heim is up to the challenge, especially with the drafting of Malcolm Moore signaling warning signs for Heim's future. This may be the last year for him in Texas.

Stephen Perez: Hoby Milner

With a questionable bullpen, Texas needs all the arms they can get and Milner has great value given he's a lefty and those are commodities in MLB. Milner has been pretty terrible this offseason and with Robert Garcia, I don't think he'll be the first left-handed relief option for Bochy.

Malik Wright: Nathan Eovaldi

Expectations will be higher than ever this season after signing his three-year, $75 million deal this winter. With deGrom trying to get back acclimated in his first full-season back, multiple major injuries to the rotation and young arms like Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker settling in as big leaguers, I wonder if he can be the ace that goes deep into games, especially coming off a career high in innings pitched.

Could the 2025 Texas Rangers be the team to break this 14-year franchise record?

Rookie of the Year

Beau Gregory: Marc Church

There is a clear need for a bullpen stud and Church has the stuff to do it. With a lack of exciting rookies, Church can contribute in a way that is needed. He is talented enough to start a long career at the back end of the rotation starting this season.

Stephen Perez: Emiliano Teodo

Now I went with a different young arm than the other two taking Church. I know the Rangers want him to build up as a starter but I think there will come a time this season where they desperately need arms in the bullpen and he will step up.

Malik Wright: Marc Church

Had it not been for a major shoulder injury last year, Church would have seen his name on the big league roster in 2024. The Atlanta native will be one of the top options in the bullpen and has a shot to earn the closer role as the year progresses.

Series of the Year

Beau Gregory: Braves vs. Rangers, 7/25 - 7/27

July is when baseball really starts to get going and this series is right before the trade deadline. This series will likely mark a pivot point for the winner or loser to go all in or hold off a little but as the needs are similar.

Stephen Perez: Rangers at Astros, 9/15 - 9/17

This is the third to last series of the regular season and with divisional projections it will occur with the division on the line. These two will finish 1-2 in the division and this series will likely decide if Texas retakes the AL West or Houston continues their divisional dominance.

Malik Wright: Silver Boot Series

No series will mean more to the Rangers than the Silver Boot Series against the Astros. With Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker no longer in the fold, the Rangers have a chance to claim to be the best team in Texas. I expect these two teams to be one and two in the race for the American League West crown.

Bold Predicition of the Year

Beau Gregory: Texas trades for not one, but two "Aces" at the trade deadline

The pitching situation in Arlington is dire. There are few healthy arms and even fewer with no immediate health concerns. Sonny Gray will likely be available and it wouldn't be Chris Young's first deal with St. Louis where he grabbed an ace at the deadline. Alcantara will be traded in 2025 and I fully expect Texas to seize the opportunity to grab the former Cy Young winner.

Stephen Perez: Texas will finish among the top 2 teams in the American League

The Rangers are only predicted to win 85-90 games this season and by history that never seems to be enough to be the best in your league but I think there's been a lot of shift in the AL this spring to where it's possible. Texas's offense will also go off this year and propel them to a bit more wins that projected.

Malik Wright: Josh Jung and Wyatt Langford will be American League All-Stars

Jung's 2024 campaign was halted beofre it could even get started after he was hit by a pitch less than 10 games into the season, causing him to miss months, while a quad injury put a pause on Langford's rookie season. With them back healthy, I expect Jung to return to his 2023 All-Star form and for Langford to put his name amongst the best young players in MLB.
