The Texas Rangers are getting closer and closer to adding reinforcements at the July 31 trade deadline rather than admitting defeat and becoming sellers.
With that in mind, Texas is going to need a handful of weapons to bolster the roster, mostly surrounding the first base, catcher and designated hitter spots. They are connected to a few different options, so what would their lineup be if they were able to successfully trade for some needs.
Mostly linked to bullpen help, the Rangers are connected to several offensive options. The most common repeated names are Arizona's Josh Naylor, Atlanta's Marcell Ozuna and Baltimore's Ryan O'Hearn.
Projecting the Rangers lineup if 2025 trade deadline goes well
All three would fit exactly what Texas would want out of a reinforcement. A power bat that is on an expiring contract due to their limited farm system. I can imagine them loving O'Hearn or Naylor more than Ozuna due to their ability to play first, so they could keep Rowdy Tellez as a DH/1B option.
With that in mind, let's look at it through the lens of President of Baseball Operations acquiring O'Hearn by the July 31 date. This will be against a right-handed pitcher as the lefty would differ due to platoon matchups.
1. Josh Smith, DH
2. Corey Seager, SS
3. Marcus Semien, 2B
4. Adolis Garcia, RF
5. Ryan O'Hearn, 1B
6. Wyatt Langford, LF
7. Evan Carter, CF
8. Josh Jung, 3B
9. Kyle Higashioka, C
I can see Tellez being the DH at times over Smith and if that was the case I can see a player like Langford or Carter taking the leadoff spot and spotting Tellez somewhere in the fifth or sixth spot.
If a southpaw was on the mound that means Carter, Smith and Tellez would like sit. That is where the backup of Michael Helman, Cody Freeman, Alejandro Osuna or Jonah Heim would fit in.
The fun would be if Texas was able to find a way to grab both O'Hearn and Ozuna/Naylor because that would an extra level of lineup manipulation by Bochy but would add a little stress of who to demote or get rid of for President of Baseball Operations Chris Young.
Either way, finding a way to upgrade at least one of the needed positions, in this case first base, would help propel the Rangers to a successful final couple of months in the regular season to get them closer to another postseason berth.
