Joc Pederson has upset a lot of Texas Rangers fans due to his underwhelming performance since joining the organization prior to last season. The critiques have been justified but when you give fans an outlet like social media, they better be prepared to get some pushback.
On Tuesday, one X user found that out by what Gen Z would call "getting cooked" by current Rangers pre-and post-game host Jared Sandler after the user responded negatively to one of Sandler's posts.
The post was rather stat-driven, not picking sides or making excuses about the 34-year-old's struggles at the plate. It however did note the positives such as a .832 OPS over his 32 games and how his 122 WRc+ since April 5 was 22 percent above the league average.
Social media give fans a platform for easy hate
X user "Josh Sborz Enjoyer" replied saying Sandler was overhyping a $20 million DH "over barely above league average for 1/5 of a season." Sandler responded with a lengthy message not making excuses for Pederson, not even denying Pederson's struggles since coming to Texas but calling the user out for never being happy, regardless of Joc's on-field results.
Sandler sort of has a point. Joc received a lot of negative press from baseball media and the fanbase last season and to start the 2026 campaign. Even during a stretch where the California native piled up productive at-bats. Even in his current last seven games, Pederson is batting .313 and lead off Tuesday's 7-4 win with a home run.

Now, we can't go froward with this and not acknowledge that sometimes media members can be a little too timid to criticize players. Either due to the relationships they have with the team or the respect for their players after years of coverage.
Sandler is not any different. Because on top of him being a journalist, he's also been a long-time Rangers' fan and he's never made any attempt to try and hide that from people.
Earlier this week, he jumped to Corey Seager's defense, trying to shut down critics of the World Series MVP shortstop. Entering play on Wednesday, Seager has gone hitless in his last 21 at-bats and is hitting a career worst .184 with a .654 OPS in 41 games.
All this to say, fans sometimes need to calm down but from time-to-time, media members tend to take it too easy on players even when they rightfully need to called out for either poor performance or terrible mishandling of a situation.
