The Texas Rangers might not have gotten the news they wanted on Wyatt Langford. However, they did receive some positive news about their relief pitcher, Chris Martin.
Sidelined since April 15 with a shoulder impingement, Martin was with the team on their road trip to Detroit.
Furthermore, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker, said Martin will throw some bullpen sessions soon. "He (Martin) is definitely ahead of where he was just a couple of days ago,” Schumaker said to the media. “It’s been really good for him on the rehab side the last couple of days."
The Rangers will have some tough decisions to make when Chris Martin returns
It's bound to be a relief for the Rangers, no pun intended. They're currently competing for the top of the American League West and could use all the help they can get. What's more, with Martin coming back, their bullpen only gets better. He had a 2.98 ERA in 42.1 innings last season, and if he can replicate even a fraction of that, the bullpen stays golden.
Martin will be joining what is already a successful bullpen. Tyler Alexander, Jacob Latz, Gavin Collyer, Peyton Grey and more have the team's bullpen the best in the MLB. With a 2.63 ERA, the team is actually all by their lonesome in the twos, with the closest team to them being the San Francisco Giants (3.01)
With the young arms of Collyer and Grey lighting it up right now, who does he send back down when Martin comes back? Latz slowly becoming a closer doesn't help their case either.
When the Japan Series champion and World Series champion returns, it gives the Rangers a rare problem of having too many good relief pitchers. Which means someone will get the short end of the stick and not everyone will be happy with the decision.
