The Texas Rangers didn't have a participant in the All-Star game at Truist Park in Atlanta for the first time since 2017. Jacob deGrom made the team, but decided against pitching to preserve his arm for a second-half run.

Nathan Eovaldi was another Rangers' pitcher who deserved to be there as much as anyone, but was snubbed by a combination of the "one player per team" rule and because he had missed time leading up to the Midsummer Classic due to injury.

Eovaldi should have been enjoying the festivities with all the other best players this year, and the organization knew it and decided to reward him.

The Rangers paid Nathan Eovaldi his All-Star bonus anyway

In what is a nice gesture by the organization, they awarded Eovaldi with his contractual $100,000 bonus, even though being overlooked for the event by the Commissioner's Office.

Despite missing three weeks of the first half, Eovaldi is having one of the best seasons ever by a Rangers starting pitcher thanks to a 7-3 record, 1.58 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

Eovaldi has been in complete command of his arsenal all season

Eovaldi is one of those rare pitchers who can throw up to four different pitches consistently and throw them for strikes. With a mid-90s fastball, plus curve, splitter and changeup, he has been masterful with his location this season.

Eovaldi's teammates and Rangers' fans already know the right-handed hurler is one of the most well-respected league-wide for his professionalism and approach to his craft.

Another bonus that he will be looking to earn is his $250,000 bonus for claiming his first Cy Young Award with a strong second half. That is a bonus that he doesn't want to leave any doubt about.
