The 2026 MLB draft is now less than a week away, scheduled for Saturday, July 11, through Sunday, July 12. The Rangers have been linked to several talented prospects over the past several months, and now that the college season is over and the combine has taken place, insiders are hearing one name coming up more frequently.
That name is Sawyer Strosnider, the power-hitting outfielder who has played his last two seasons in Fort Worth for the TCU Horned Frogs. Strosnider is a sweet-swinging lefty who has mashed in his time in college, and he will likely be available when Texas selects with the 16th overall pick of the first round. The organization could make a lot of local folks happy and get their man with this pick.
He is a consensus middle first round prospect. Baseball America has him at #14, Fangraphs at #15, Keith Law at #19 and Baseball Prospectus has at #10 overall.

It’s a loud left-handed swing with tons of bat speed, leverage, and barrel feel that leads to potential plus power in the future. He’s already surpassed the 110 MPH barrier with ease…

Potential Rangers' target Sawyer Strosnider has easy-looking power, improving plate discipline, and is a plus defender in the outfield
The Texas Christian product has impressed with not only his power but also an improvement in plate discipline. The raw power speaks for itself with next-level exit velocity that led to 24 career homers and an insane .623 slugging, but Strosnider also offers what most young home run hitters don't, and that's a keen eye at the dish. Even though he will still chase now and then, he has shown that he is willing to work on matching his mash with swinging at good pitches.
In 2026, he walked 43 times in just 184 at-bats. He also walked at almost the same rate at which he struck out, which is the kind of quality that usually translates well regardless of what level you're playing at. He more than doubled his walk total from his freshman season (20) in 17 fewer plate appearances.
Defensively, he has plus speed and plus arm strength and is considered one of the best athletes in the 2026 class. He stole 22 bases in his two years at TCU.
Of course, almost every prospect has its flaws as well, and Strosnider's draft status has taken a hit due to his lack of production against lefties and a tough month to end his season. Some draft experts have questions about whether he will be an everyday player because of it. Still, at just 21 and being such a phenomenal athlete, there is a good chance he will improve against southpaws.
The fact that he played his high school ball (Brock High School in Weatherford) and college ball in the great state of Texas would make him a favorite right away and curry favor with the fanbase for sure, while also addressing an area of great need moving forward.
