The only thing better than a walk-off win is when it punctuates a successful homestand and sends a team on the road for a nine-game trip, against favorable opponents.
Danny Jansen's first-pitch line drive just inside the third-base bag gave the Texas Rangers an unlikely 6-5 comeback win, their second consecutive series win and a 4-2 record for the home stand..
The Rangers will now head south to take on the hated AL West rival, Houston Astros and use that momentum to their advantage and continue to push for the top spot in the division
Rangers now single game under .500 as the schedule gets much easier
At 21-22, the Rangers are alone in second place and just 1.5 games behind the surprising Athletics, who sit atop the AL West.
More importantly, it sends the team on a trip to Houston, Colorado and Los Angeles in what are nine winnable games against teams that are not having good seasons so far.
The Astros are 17-27 and appear to be in rebuild mode this year, having given up the most runs in the league through May 14. The Angels are a game worse at 18-26, and find themselves in a familiar spot at the bottom of the division, a full seven games out of first.
The Rockies are still one of the worst teams in MLB. Nothing has changed about that.
Ranger fans should be encouraged by how they won the series versus the Diamondbacks
The Rangers finally got significant contributions from the bottom half of their rotation to take the final two games of the three-game set against Corbin Carroll and Arizona.
MacKenzie Gore had not only his best start in a Rangers' uniform, but his best in the last calendar year. He sailed through eight innings and gave up just three hits and one walk to guide the team to an easy 7-4 win.
Kumar Rocker followed that up by battling through five scoreless innings and doing his best work wth runners on base. Even though the Rangers would cede the lead in the ninth, Rocker's work to start the game had them in position to pull off the thrilling walk-off on the double by Jansen.
Hopefully, Jack Leiter can find his groove on Friday against Houston before the rotation flips back to Jacob deGrom and what should be a healthy and well-rested Nathan Eovaldi, who was scratched from his last start with soreness in his left side.
