After Saturday, the Texas Rangers trailed the Toronto Blue Jays by two games for the final American League Wild Card spot and the Houston Astros by three games for first place in the American League West. Luckily, Texas received promising injury updates on several key players as the club attempts to make the postseason.

Rangers 3B Josh Jung runs bases

Jung ran the bases on Saturday, according to The Dallas Morning News' Shawn McFarland. The next step for Jung is to face live pitching before beginning a rehab assignment.

Jung has been on the injured list since July 25 due to a left calf strain. Before being placed on the IL, he had been one of the Rangers' best hitters in 2026, slashing .294/.361/.441 with nine home runs and 35 RBI over 92 games. Getting Jung back before the end of the season would be a huge boost to the Rangers' offense as the team fights for a playoff spot.

Rangers RHP Nathan Eovaldi throws bullpen

Eovaldi threw a bullpen session on Saturday, per McFarland. If he recovers, Eovaldi will face live pitching soon.

The Rangers placed Eovaldi on the IL on Aug. 10 due to right posterior elbow inflammation. He had a strong outing three days before being placed on the IL, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings against the Baltimore Orioles.

Eovaldi, 36, posted a 4.21 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP and 137 strikeouts in 132 2/3 innings across 22 starts this year before suffering his injury.

Rangers RHP Jack Leiter headed to Arizona to continue rehab

Leiter is going to Arizona to continue his rehab, according to McFarland. McFarland added that the chances of Leiter returning as a starter this season are low.

Leiter has been on the IL since June 21 with a right ankle posterior impingement. He underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove a loose body in his ankle back in June.

Leiter began a rehab assignment on Aug. 13. He made one appearance with Double-A Frisco and two with Triple-A Round Rock, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits and three walks over 6 2/3 innings.

Before landing on the IL, Leiter posted a 5.29 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP and 83 strikeouts over 80 innings this season.

While Leiter won't return as a starter, getting the right-hander back as a bullpen arm before the end of the season could be a major boost for Texas.
