Call it a freeze warning, because Kumar Rocker started 2026 cold and has only gotten colder as the season has gone on for the Texas Rangers. Despite the recent five-inning shutout, he might be the worst pitcher in the team's rotation.
Finishing the month of April with a 3.38 ERA, his pitching really went off the deep end once the month of May started. Or maybe ballooned would be a better word, because it nearly doubled to 6.75 in the MLB's second month. What makes it even worse is that he let that many runners get by him in just 10.2 innings pitched.
5 ER in 43 pitches for Kumar Rocker and this one is gonna be a tall mountain to climb pic.twitter.com/ds2c64ByuH

Demotion to Triple-A might be on the horizon
It's bad enough that local media are already discussing a demotion to Triple-A Round Rock. Although right now, it sounds like it's an unlikely scenario it has to at least be on the table for the Rangers.
"I don't rule it out, but I think the Rangers would like to see him continue to pitch in the big leagues and make some progress," said Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. "You reach a point where you say, 'No, this isn't going anywhere'... I just don't think they're there yet."
It's a high fall from grace for the former third overall draft pick. Rocker, once expected to be a cornerstone of the team for at least the next decade, now has the shortest leash of all the starting pitchers. At the rate he's going at, even with his recent performance against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he might be in Round Rock before the calendar turns to June
Rocker has to stop the bleeding now because the Rangers have already started to make some moves behind the scenes, calling up pitcher David Davalillo to Triple-A. If the slide continues, he gives Davlillo a shot at his job and a shot at the big leagues.
