After the spring training he had, Tyler Wade probably thought his time with the Texas Rangers would turn out differently. However, the 31-year-old veteran infielder is now looking for a new team a month into the season.

Known more for his glove, his downside in his career has been his performance at the plate. Although in the spring, he was hitting as high as .600. One of the hottest bats on the team, he unfortunately didn't do enough to make the final roster.

The outcome is disappointing for sure, but Wade is now free to sign with any other MLB team and is chance of finding a new home is high, with plenty of teams always searching for infield depth.

With Tyler Wade gone, Cody Freeman could be on his way back to the Rangers

Once Wade was optioned to Round Rock after not making the Opening Day roster, his play took a hit as well. Over 16 games, Wade recorded a slash line of .226/.315/.242 with no home runs, six RBIs, a double, 13 strikeouts and a .557 OPS in 73 plate appearances.

It also didn't play into any favors for Wade that infield depth was one of the areas that the big league club was not lacking. Another reason why the Rangers aren't in any hurry to replace that spot held by Wade.

Rangers letting Wade look for other opportunities is also a sign that a player who missed all of spring training could be on his way back soon in Cody Freeman. A versatile infielder in his own right, he was a rising star near the end of last season. He also showed remarkable improvement as his debut season went on, with his batting average getting better each month.

On track to potentially challenge Josh Smith for the everyday spot at second base to start the season, a stress fracture in his lower back early in spring sent that to a screeching halt. As a result, Freeman never got to show the organization that he could continue on his upward trajectory.

Freeman never got to show the organization that he could continue on his upward trajectory. Now, though, he might finally get the chance to strut his stuff. Seen taking swings in the batting cages last week, Freeman could return late April or early May, making Wade's release not look like a coincidence.
