Rangers News: Evan Carter, Adolis Garcia, coach on White Sox managerial radar
The Texas Rangers may be home recovering from a disappointing 2024, but even the dull moments of the baseball calendar offer impactful updates and rumors.
Texas recently provided injury updates on Evan Carter and Adolis Garcia. Further, Will Venable could be on the White Sox's list of potential managerial candidates.
According to the team, left fielder Evan Carter had an ablation procedure in Dallas last week. The 22-year-old missed the bulk of this past season due to a back strain, and once he was placed on the injured list, he never felt well enough to commit to a rehab assignment.
The former second-round pick only slashed .188/.272/.361 across 45 games, but has remained optimistic about his future prospects.
“I'm excited,” Carter said in September of his recovery. “It's been one of those things where you do everything that you're supposed to do. You do everything right, you bust your butt, and then there's no results. So it's like, why are there no results? Why are we not seeing what we want to see? On one side, it sucks that this is going to be me for the rest of my life. But on the other hand, I can take care of that hopefully, and kind of put it on the back burner for a while. So I'm excited about what we've got going forward. We’ll see how it goes.”
The Rangers also announced that Adolis Garcia will begin rehab for a left patella tendon strain after being in Dallas earlier this week. He will plan to have a regular offseason program after roughly two months of rehab.
Garcia struggled in 2024 and only finished the year with a .684 OPS. But, president of baseball operations, Chris Young, does not feel as though injuries were the primary cause of his regression.
“He had a great season health wise,” Young said. "At the end of the season, he felt a little bit of the knee issue, which was similar to -- on a lesser scale -- where it was last year, when he missed some time. This is something he's going to manage moving forward. I think this year, we did a great job of being able to manage that. The staff did a great job of finding guys to get him off his feet, DH days, off days, stuff like that. We'll continue to do it, not just with Adolis, but with all of our players. The workload management's important aspect to their recovery and their ability to perform consistently.”

In other news, the Chicago White Sox are rumored to be interested in hiring Rangers' associate manager Will Venable as their full-time skipper.
This is not the first time that Venable’s name has been mentioned in this regard. The former player turned down the Mets last offseason and was also reportedly on the Cincinnati Reds’ list of candidates before they hired Terry Francona.
Many pundits believe that Venable may be the club’s next manager once Bruce Bochy departs, but it will be interesting to see if another franchise could sway him away from Texas.
