In the second round (No.54 overall) of the 2026 MLB Draft, the Texas Rangers selected shortstop/third baseman Connor Comeau out of Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. While Comeau, 17, is listed as a shortstop on MLB Pipeline, it's more likely he will play the other position he's listed at, third base, for Texas. Therefore, he could be the one to replace Josh Jung in a few years.
Granted, Comeau, a left-handed hitter, will still be very young when Jung's final arbitration year, 2028, arrives. So, there may be a year or two where Texas needs someone else to fill in at third until Comeau is ready for the majors, assuming he progresses through the minors as expected.
Per Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers were considering drafting Comeau with the 16th pick in the draft. Instead, the Rangers drafted high school left-hander Gio Rojas in the first round.
The Rangers select Connor Comeau at 54. They have to be ridiculously happily. They were considering Comeau at No. 16. https://t.co/Kbv7lWXf0e

Texas must be ecstatic that it landed Comeau in the second round. The front office probably feels like they just landed two first-round picks.
Here are Comeau's scouting grades, per MLB Pipeline:
Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 40 | Arm: 55 | Field: 45 | Overall: 50
Rangers 2026 Draft pick Connor Comeau has an elite hit tool
A 55-hit tool is elite, especially for a second-rounder. And while the defense is below average, his strong arm should play well at third base. He won't be a threat on the basepaths, but that's fine if he can hit as expected.
MLB Pipeline praises Comeau for being a very advanced hitter for his age. He consistently drives balls to the opposite field.
The new Rangers prospect raised his draft stock by hitting .417 with four extra-base hits over 10 games between the World Wood Bat Association World Championship and Area Code Games. He also competed in the Canadian Futures Showcase and finished second in the Home Run Derby at Rogers Centre.
Comeau, a Texas A&M commit, won't turn 18 until next month. He stands at six-foot-four and weighs 180 pounds. Since he's still very young, he should gain muscle as he ages.
The MLB Draft will last through 6:45 p.m. CDT today, ending with the fourth round. Fans can watch on Peacock, MLB.com, MLB TV and MLB+. Rounds 5 through 20 will take place on Sunday, July 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. CDT on Peacock, MLB.com, MLB TV and MLB+.
