After having dropped four of their last five to two of the worst teams in baseball, the Texas Rangers could really use some positive news. Well, they got some when it was announced that 20-year-old Bahamian phenom Sebastian Walcott was well ahead of schedule in his recovery from a UCL tear in his elbow and Tommy John surgery.
The organization's top prospect, who is currently the ninth-ranked player in the country according to MLB Pipeline, is set to come back several months earlier than expected and will get back to progressing toward rising through the minor league ranks and eventually to Arlington sometime in 2027.
Sebastian Walcott was on schedule to get a cup of coffee with the Rangers in 2026 before being sidelined
As one of the top prospects in the history of the Rangers' organization, the news could not have been much better concerning the athletic slugger.
When Walcott sustained the injury early in spring training, it was estimated that he would not resume baseball activities of any kind until the 2026 season was done. Now, the club is moving its top prospect from the Arizona camp to Arlington, where he will spend time with the major league club while he continues his rehab. He could return to the minor leagues by late July, which is months ahead of schedule.

The front office saw this as an opportunity to get him out of Arizona and around the big league club for a bit
He’s progressing well and could return by late July
Things are not going well in Arlington right now, and getting their stud prospect back early should be a shot in the arm psychologically.
Before his injury, Walcott was showing why he is so highly regarded while playing for Frisco at Double-A at the tender age of 19. Playing against pitchers anywhere from 2 to 10 years older than him, he was progressing nicely. In 2025, he slashed .255/.355/.386. He belted 13 homers and drove in 59 in 124 games.
He also plays a premium position at shortstop and is being viewed as Corey Seager's successor. The way that Seager is going in 2026, the team hopes he is ready to make the move sooner rather than later. So, getting this positive news about his rehab is the best news the team and fans could have gotten.
As the major league squad continues to frustrate with inconsistent and sometimes sloppy, indifferent play, this Walcott news should reassure the fanbase that help is on the way - even if not in time for this year's group.
