It's never if but when will a veteran eventually get released from a minor league deal and Texas Rangers got that answer with outfielder Dairon Blanco on Friday.
Blanco, 33, was released by Texas after 21 games in Triple-A Round Rock this season after going .230/.324/.295 without a home run, four doubles and seven steals. Often seen as one of the fastest players in baseball, Blanco's offense didn't match even his career numbers.
Blanco's release from Rangers no surprise
A four-year veteran, Blanco has moslty spent his time in Major League Baseball with the Kansas City Royals but as a former professional ballplayer in Cuba, majority of his time in the league has been spent in the minor leagues.
His best stretch in MLB happened with Kansas City in 2023, where he played in 69 games hitting .258 with three home runs, 18 RBIs, seven doubles, four triples and an electric 24 stolen bases in 29 chances. He also added a career-high .775 OPS.
Dairon Blanco has 2 home runs and 6 RBI tonight. It's the 3rd inning. 👀

Blanco was claimed off waivers from Texas in March after being released by the Royals after a tough 2025 where his nine games with the big league club amounted just to a .167 average.
Despite experience at all three outfield spots and plus-speed to cover a lot of ground, Blanco also lacks the arm strength. His value to a team in the future might be as depth outfield coverage and a crazy .296 average against left-handed pitchers.
