Former Texas Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe is currently playing in the American League Championship Series for the Cleveland Guardians, who have a 2-1 lead over the Tampa Bay Rays. While Lowe, 31, is hitting just .222 with a .296 slugging percentage this postseason, he has played a major role in the Guardians' 2-1 ALCS lead.

In Game 1 of the ALCS at Tropicana Field, Lowe hit a two-run single in the eighth inning to give the Guardians a 4-2 lead. Cleveland ended up winning 7-3. Lowe had two hits in the game.

After a hitless showing in Game 2, Lowe had another huge hit in Game 3, giving Cleveland a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the second inning. Lowe's double proved crucial, as the Guardians won 3-2.

Now, let's flash back to the American League Division Series between the Guardians and White Sox. Cleveland lost the first two games of the series. Lowe had just one hit in those two games.

Then, in Game 3, he drew three walks and scored a run as the Guardians won 9-3. He went 2-for-4 with a walk in Game 4 as Cleveland won 9-5.

Lowe isn't hitting for much power this postseason, but he's collecting hits when it matters and has a strong .344 on-base percentage.

Texas Rangers should consider bringing back Nathaniel Lowe after a clutch playoff performance

The Rangers should strongly consider signing Lowe, who will be a free agent this offseason. He shouldn't be too expensive, and Texas could use a platoon option at first base with Jake Burger. Not to mention, the DH spot will be open if Joc Pederson, a free agent this offseason, leaves.

Lowe began his career with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2019. The Rangers acquired him from the Rays after the 2020 season. Lowe played for Texas from 2021-24. With Texas, he won a World Series, a Gold Glove Award, and a Silver Slugger Award.

Over his four years with the Rangers, Lowe posted 10.8 fWAR and a .274/.359/.432 slash line with 78 home runs and 299 RBI. The Rangers traded him to the Washington Nationals after the 2024 season. The Nationals designated Lowe for assignment and released him after he posted a poor .665 OPS over 119 games. The Boston Red Sox picked him up for the rest of the year, and he hit a solid .280/.370/.420 over 34 games with Boston.

The Cincinnati Reds signed Lowe to a minor-league deal this past offseason. He made the team out of spring training and slashed a strong .266/.341/.480 over 83 games. The Reds traded Lowe to the Guardians at the deadline. He struggled in 43 regular-season games with Cleveland, posting a .650 OPS. Still, his numbers with the Reds and clutch playoff performance are impressive enough that the Rangers should consider reuniting with the fan favorite.

Lowe posted an .822 OPS against righties this season, which is a huge improvement over the .659 mark Burger put up against righties. However, Burger recorded an .892 OPS against southpaws, whom Lowe struggles against. Together, they could be a potent duo that helps boost the Rangers' lineup overall.
