Since 1980, managers and head coaches across the league have cast their votes for the best offensive player at each position, and awarded them with the coveted Silver Slugger award, sponsored by Louisville Slugger.

There are some former Rangers that have claimed the silver bat hardware that you may have forgotten. These players stepped up and claimed the prize just one time in their stints with the organization with an outstanding statistical season.

This year, FanSided is excited to share that we are the official destination to hear first about both the Silver Slugger nominations and the official winners. Voting is done by MLB coaches and managers, and they are instructed to use a combination of stats and their own professional opinion of who are the best hitters in the game.

3 Texas Rangers one-hit wonder Silver Slugger winners

Vladimir Guerrero Sr., 2010

Make no mistake, Vlad Guerrero Sr. was a heck of a ballplayer. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018. He won a total of eight Silver Slugger awards over his 16 year career spanning 1996-2011. Guerrero's on this list because he only played one season in Arlington and managed to win the trophy at 35, in what would be the penultimate season of his fine career.

In 2010, Vlad hit an even .300 with 29 homers and 115 RBIs. The man, who had a strike zone the size of Texas, and once golfed a one-hopped pitch out of the park also maintained an .841 OPS and slugged .435 while playing outfield for the Rangers.

Harold Baines, 1989

Remember the smooth-swinging lefty, Harold Baines? In 1989, the slender DH/1B won the Silver Slugger award while playing for two teams. He was traded to the Rangers from the Chicago White Sox mid-season and didn't skip a beat at the plate all year.

By hitting .309 with 16 home runs and 72 runs batted in, Baines claimed what would be his only Silver Slugger trophy in a long 22 year career that spanned 1980-2001. Baines was also eventually elected into the Hall of Fame in 2019 by the Today's Game Era Committee

Buddy Bell, 1984

Fans of the late 70s and 80s Texas Rangers teams certainly remember the blonde-haired Gold Glove third baseman who manned the hot corner from 1979-1985 with a brief stint in '89 before retiring. The five time all-star picked up his only Silver Slugger in 1984 playing at the old Arlington Stadium.

That year, Bell hit .315 with 11 dingers and 85 RBIs. Bell was more of a gap hitter than a power hitter mashing 36 doubles and five triples all while maintaining an impressive .840 OPS.
