This week Major League Baseball will be holding its second annual Spring Breakout, a showcase scheduled from March 13 to15, displaying the top minor league talent on all 30 MLB teams.

The rosters are made up of players within the organizations who have little to no major league experience.  For Ranger fans it is a chance to get a glimpse at the future with a roster headlined by 18-year old Bahamian born shortstop Sebastian Walcott and last season’s first-round pick, catcher Malcolm Moore.

Walcott and Moore are considered among the team’s front office decision makers to be the team’s future, both ranked within the organization’s top five prospects. Both started spring with the big league club, playing in a handful of game’s each before being reassigned to minor league camp.

Another notable name you will see on the Rangers roster is pitching prospect Emiliano Teodo, who started last year's MLB Futures Game. He finished his first season for the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders with a 1.98 ERA and over 100 strikeouts in 20 starts. Teodo has also started spring training strong, recording two saves, five strikeouts and a 0.90 WHIP in 5.1 innings of work.

“I think this is a great opportunity for our players that maybe would not get exposure to showcase their talents on a nationally televised game,” Rangers GM Ross Fenstermaker told MLB.com about the uniqueness of spring breakout

There are a good number of players ranked among the top 30 in the Rangers’ system who will be participating in the game, including outfielders Alejandro Osuna, who was named the team’s 2024 Tom Grieve Minor League Player of the Year, Dylan Dreiling, and Paulino Santana ranked eighth, tenth and 11th in the organization.

Joining Walcott in the infield will be Yolfran Castillo, who ranks ninth in the system and first baseman Abimelec Ortiz who ranks 14th.

Another pitcher to be on the lookout for is fifth ranked prospect Winston Santos, a 22-year old pitcher with a fastball that can reach 98 mph, to go along with one of the most deadly sliders in the minors.

Texas also has several notable absences on the roster this year, including two of the team’s top five prospects in Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker. Both are locked into tight roster battles at the big league level. Other big names like Alejandro Rosario, Jose Corniell and Kohl Drake are dealing with injuries and will not participate.

The Rangers’ spring breakout game against the San Francisco Giants team will be held on March 15th at 7 p.m. central in Scottsdale, Arizona. Fans can watch the action using MLB.tv, MLB.com or MLB app.
