The Texas Rangers officially have a player on their roster playing in the 2026 World Baseball Classic after it was confirmed Alejandro Osuna will play for Mexico this spring.

Shared by Shawn Spradling, the 23-year-old outfielder confirmed in an on-field interview last week following the Mexican League championship where Osuna's team Charros de Jalisco Beisbol won the title for the second straight year.

Osuna, as of right now, is set to be the only player on the Rangers' roster to represent the organization at this year's WBC. All the rosters have mostly been confirmed but an official announcement of all 20 rosters is expected on February 5.

How does it effect Osuna's spring training status?

While the event only happens once every four years, it still does eat a little time into the schedule for players prep for the upcoming season. This year, spring training workouts are supposed to begin on Feb. 15, games will start at end of February and WBC will kick off on March 3.

The tournament will stretch a two-week span, with the championship game set for Tuesday, March 17 for the two teams that make it that far. If Mexico is one of those team's Osuna will be playing in the tournament that entire stretch. If they got eliminated earlier, he'd likely return to Texas's spring training in Surprise.

Osuna, a Mexican native, played in 63 games for Texas during the 2025 season and hit .212 with two home runs, 15 RBIs, four doubles and five stolen bases. He split time in all three outfield spots last year but mostly logged innings in left field.

He did however light up the Mexican League this winter, batting .339 with an .897 OPS and a .411 slugging percentage across 17 games for Charros de Jalisco Beisbol.

With an outfield more than likely set, Osuna is not necessarily competing for a starting job but there's a high likelihood that he will serve as a vital bench option for Texas this offseason in the outfield and at the DH spot.
