This one stat should have Rangers fans hopeful a turnaround is still possible

The Rangers only need to find ways to score four runs a game in order to find success. Why is that no doable?

Looking for a silver lining in the 31-35 start of the Texas Rangers in 2025? How about the fact that the Rangers are 22-4 in games where they score at least 4 runs?

It is, at the very least, a reason to hold out hope for this Ranger team that is striking out at an unbelievable rate thus far.

This Rangers stat is a byproduct of the superior starting pitching

Naturally, this singular, cherry-picked statistic is a byproduct of some stellar starting pitching turned in from the likes of Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, Jack Leiter, Tyler Mahle and Patrick Corbin. It's a true indication of how many games under .500 this year's team would be if the rotation hadn't been so effective all season long.

It is also a nod to the bullpen that, despite a couple of rough patches, has been serviceable and up to the task most of the time. Guys like Robert Garcia, Shawn Armstrong, Hoby Milner, and Chris Martin have been reliable arms in the late innings, preserving the low-scoring wins.

Think how good this Texas team could be if they were just average offensively

The average number of runs scored per game per team in 2025 is 4.32 and the Rangers are currently sitting at an awful 3.35 runs per game, good for 28th in the league. If they were scoring at league average, they could potentially be over .500 by 20 or more games.

The hated Houston Astros are 23rd in the league, scoring 4.02 runs per game. That's an indication that the Rangers could be a well-below-average offensive team and still have a much better record than they currently have.

The more that we think about it, it is less of a silver lining and more of a sobering reminder of what could have been (and may still be) if the Rangers lineup can just be bad instead of hideous with the bats.

There is little doubt that manager Bruce Bochy, along with co-hitting coaches Bret Boone and Justin Viele are working as hard as they can to get this veteran group to produce at a rate that they know they are capable of.
