The Rangers’ putrid offense isn’t making an All-Star case for any player

The Texas Rangers lineup continues to underwhelm, leaving no clear All-Star candidates among position players.

Voting for the 2025 All-Star Game is underway with the contest scheduled for July 15 at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. The Rangers look poised to send at least two pitchers and possibly three with the phenomenal first halves that Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, and Tyler Mahle are turning in.

Unfortunately, it is beginning to look like the pitchers will be the only representatives this year, as no positional player is putting up the kind of standout numbers that deserve a spot in the game. The mid-season classic is reserved for those who have demonstrated they are among the best at their position thus far.

The Rangers who appeared to have a chance are slumping and have been injured

Through the first 30 games, it looked as if the Rangers would have several candidates as Josh Smith got off to a blazing hot start, Wyatt Langford was hitting for power and stealing bases, and Corey Seager was, well, being Corey Seager.

In the last 30 games, however, Smith has gone cold, seeing his average go from .330 to .260, Langford is slumping and his average is in the .230s, and Seager has missed too much time with injury to merit consideration as an All-Star.

Other regular All-Star Ranger candidates got off to terrible starts

Other all-stars from past seasons, like Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia, got off to such awful starts that even as Semien appears to be beginning to turn things around, we are too far into the season for him to mount a real push to represent the Rangers at second base.

As for Garcia, he has been so bad that manager Bruce Bochy has pulled him from the lineup for the past 4 games, as he has looked completely lost at the plate all season long.

There is still time for Smith, Josh Jung, or possibly Langford to get red hot and make a push, as the voting will continue for the next six weeks, but it doesn't look very good right now.
