The Texas Rangers just finished what can only be described as a frustrating four game series with the Houston Astros with both teams notching two victories. Despite breaking even being “ok,” it felt like Bruce Bochy’s squad should have won all four.
The biggest problem for the team, especially on Sunday was the bullpen. It jumped the line over an offense that still struggles from time to time. And in the last game of the Silver Boot series, Jack Leiter went from throwing 6.2 innings of no-hit ball, to the bullpen allowing a three run home run to third baseman Johnny Paredes that ended up being the winning runs.
Chris Martin hurt again
Speaking of frustrations, not only is the bullpen shorthanded with Luke Jackson out but it looks like it took another hit on Sunday. Chris Martin had to leave the Texas Rangers’ game on Sunday after throwing just one pitch.
He left the game with “shoulder discomfort” according to manager Bruce Bochy after the contest. Martin could be seen yelling in frustration as he left the mound. It tends not to be a good sign when that sort of thing happens. For now, the team has no updates on the next steps and whether an IL stop is in order.
Texas Rangers lose young star to IL
Speaking of the Injured List, just before the series finale, the club made a series of moves. Among them was putting young outfielder Evan Carter on the IL with a quad injury that the team believes is worse than originally thought.
Carter is expected to be out “a few weeks.” This is the second time in two years he’s landed on the IL in May. Here’s hoping this time, he doesn’t stay there all year like he did in 2024.
Brandon Hyde owes Bruce Bochy an apology
Earlier this weekend, Orioles Manager Brandon Hyde was fired. As it turns out, the end of his career in Baltimore seems to indicate once and for all that Bochy was shafted when he didn’t take home the AL Manager of the year award. Despite leading the Texas Rangers to the World Series.
