Despite the fact that the Texas Rangers are likely staring at going over the luxury tax for a third straight season, all insider reports are claiming that President of Baseball Operations Chris Young is going to be extra aggressive by the MLB Trade Deadline. In fact, according to the latest reports, the team is checking in with several other clubs that are expected to deal by the Thursday deadline.

Texas Rangers are kicking the tires on several Colorado Rockies relievers

According to the Dallas Morning News, Young isn't shy about getting some relief help. That includes checking out at least three relievers on the Rockies. Jake Bird, Victor Vodnik, and Tyler Kinley are all at least on the Rangers' radar.

Bird might be the most attractive of the three, considering he's pre-arbitration eligible and would be under team control for three additional years. He also averages more than a strikeout per inning and has the best strikeout-to-walk rate of the trio. He's also only owed $300,000 for the rest of the season so he wouldn't put the team over the luxury tax.

Tampa Bay Rays closer could be coming back to Texas

The Rangers and Tampa Bay have had at least preliminary discussions about closer Pete Fairbanks. Fairbanks was once a reliever for the Rangers but has really had a breakout type season with Tampa. He'd be a little more costly, but with a 2.70 ERA this year for Tampa Bay with 18 saves, he'd also be the kind of lockdown 9th inning guy the team desperately needs.

Rangers are pursuing Ryan Helsley

There are also many reports that Texas is talking to St. Louis about their closer as the Cardinals turn into sellers. Like most of the other relievers on this list, they're not the only club looking at Helsley, who came into the year as one of the best closers in baseball.

After getting 49 saves in 53 opportunities. This year, he's struggled a bit, already blowing 5 saves in 26 opportunities, but the Cards' asking price isn't going down because of that, especially considering how few real closers will be available on the market. The Texas Rangers badly want a reliever and he might be the best available.
