The Rangers could equal this abysmal stat not seen since 1980

It's been a bad year for the longball

The Texas Rangers have been synonymous with putting up big offensive numbers for over thirty years now, which makes this year's team and this dubious possibility even more alarming.

For the first tie since 1980, when Al Oliver topped the team with 19 homers, the Rangers are looking at the very real chance of not having a single player with at least 20 homeruns.

It has been 45 years since the Rangers haven't had a player hit at least 20 dingers

Excluding the strike shortened season of 1981, the last time the Texas Rangers failed to have a 20 homerun hitter was in 1980 when Al Oliver hit 19 longballs.

Oliver had a monster year collecting 209 hits good for a .319 average He also had 43 doubles and drove in 119 runs,

We think it's safe to say that none of this years Rangers will approach those kind of gaudy numbers.

Corey Seager leads the team with 17 HRs right now

Now, there is one slight caveat included with this possible statistical anomaly. Corey Seager, who has been known to visit the IL from time to time, would likely have to miss time for it to happen. If he stays healthy and the Rangers don't shut him down, he would likely get at least three more HRs in the final 43 games.

If he doesn't, then it would be up to Adolis Garcia, who currently has 16 HRs, and Wyatt Langford, who has been sitting on 15 HRs for close to a month now.

Do you trust Garcia to get four more homers this season? He isn't exactly tearing the cover off the ball these days with his .225 average.

And Langford, for all his promise and upside, has never hit more than 16 in his rookie campaign last season. And he hasn't gone yard in over his last 100 plate appearances.

The offensive struggles are real in Arlington this year, and this ignominious statistic bares that out.
