Coming off what is one of the ugliest losses of the 2025 season, there is some good news regarding the Texas Rangers’ injury situation. Most importantly, it looks like a pitching staff that various setbacks have whittled down is taking a few steps back towards something resembling full strength.

Here are the most up-to-date pieces of info on the Rangers and their myriad of injured stars:

Nathan Eovaldi is officially on the road back with bullpens planned

The man who has put together a Cy Young candidacy in 2025 might be back by the end of the month. However, July seems more realistic.

Nathan Eovaldi threw a bullpen session on Tuesday before the Texas Rangers' 6-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals. That session went quite a bit better than the game did, and he’s expected to throw another session in Pittsburgh this weekend. He might start a rehab game and then return to the team if that goes well.

The difficulty in knowing any of this is that the franchise either isn’t clear, or isn’t being clear about how badly he’s hurt. For his part, Bruce Bochy thinks there could be a start for Nathan Eovaldi at the Big League level.

Cody Bradford could be back with the Texas Rangers next week

Things are far more up front when it comes to reliever Cody Bradford. He hasn’t pitched yet this season as he suffered an elbow sprain in spring training. The 27-year-old reliever was supposed to begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend.

However, he suffered a setback when he developed a fever, and because of that, his outing was pushed back a few days. He could still be back by the end of next week if that rehab assignment goes well and he gets well quickly.

Josh Sborz has two more bullpen sessions before Rangers return

Josh Sborz is a little farther away than Bradford, but basically by a bullpen session. He’ll continue returning from shoulder surgery by throwing a bullpen later today. According to Bochy, he will throw one more after that. Should all go well, he’ll then begin a rehab assignment.

Jon Gray’s fractured wrist is still a ways away from Big League return

Bochy has said Gray’s return from a fractured wrist will include three more bullpen sessions before he pitches to live batters. He is still essentially at the beginning of his spring training. Consider his progress as having just reported to camp.

Tyler Mahle’s situation is still mostly a mystery

The Rangers’ starter was having his best season by far until he came down with what the Team is calling “shoulder fatigue.” The team placed him on the 15-day Injured List on Sunday, so the absolute earliest he could be back is June 30.

However, it’s not clear if this is a minimum IL stay. Bochy went on the record saying they’re erring on the side of caution, so it could be well into July before he’s back.

Joc Pederson’s broken hand is still in holding pattern with scan still weeks away

Joc Pederson is the only hitter who is currently hurt after Evan Carter returned to the lineup on Tuesday. And he appears to be quite far away from returning. He’s still two weeks away from a follow-up scan to take a look at his broken hand, which he suffered on May 24.

The absolute earliest he could be back appears to be late July. However, that would require the scan to show that things are progressing nicely. If he weren't a free agent this fall, he might even be out for the season, but he’ll push to come back at some point, even if it’s August or September.
