Third baseman Josh Jung hasn't appeared in a spring training game since the Texas Rangers' matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Justin Foscue has also been sidelined for a bit; the infielder left Texas' game against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday with right hamstring tightness.

Rangers manager Skip Schumaker provides encouraging injury updates on Josh Jung, Justin Foscue

MLB.com's Kennedi Landry provided injury updates regarding the two key Rangers position players on Saturday morning. According to manager Skip Schumaker, Jung has a Grade 1 abductor strain, and Foscue has a right hamstring strain. Luckily, both are expected to be sidelined for only about 10 days, meaning they should be ready for Opening Day barring any more setbacks.

Jung has played in three games so far this spring. He went 0-for-2 during the Rangers' Cactus League opener against the Kansas City Royals on Friday, Feb. 20, before going 2-for-2 with a double and a single against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout against Arizona on Tuesday.

Jung is expected to be the Rangers' starting third baseman this season. Having him healthy for Opening Day is vital.

In 2023, Jung made the American League (AL) All-Star team and posted 2.6 bWAR and a .266/.315/.467 (113 OPS+) slash line with 23 home runs and 70 RBI across 122 games en route to finishing fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting. He also made a huge impact during Texas' World Series run that season, hitting .308/.329/.867 with three home runs, four doubles, one triple and eight RBI over 70 plate appearances in the playoffs.

Jung has suffered various injuries during his MLB career, leading him to play in just 46 games in 2024, during which he hit .264/.298/.421 (108 OPS+) with seven home runs and 16 RBI across 188 plate appearances. Jung was mostly healthy in 2025, but he wasn't as productive as Rangers fans had hoped.

Despite holding an OPS below .700 last year, Jung's OPS+ was exactly 100, meaning he was a league-average hitter. Still, he needs to step up his game at the plate if he wants to continue being the Rangers' starting third baseman.

As for Foscue, the infielder was on an absolute tear at the plate before leaving Monday's game with hamstring tightness. In seven at-bats this spring, Foscue has hit a double and three singles with one RBI and one run scored.

With Cody Freeman slated to miss four to six weeks due to a stress fracture in his lower back, Texas needs Foscue to be Josh Smith's backup at second base. Foscue has also started at first base twice already this spring, suggesting he could take some of Jake Burger's playing time if he continues to perform well upon returning from his injury.
