Texas Rangers news: A streak snapped, a debut made, and a veteran sent packing

The Rangers needed nine innings to win, found new energy in Osuna, and cleared a roster spot for him.

The Texas Rangers needed an entire week to get it done, but they finally got a win. Snapping a six-game losing streak doesn't fix everything that ails them, but at least Bruce Bochy's squad can head into Memorial Day having hit the reset button.

That Adolis García hit a two-run double in a three-run ninth inning, in order for the Rangers to break the losing streak could be seen as either a good thing or a bad thing. They needed to rally late to beat a bad Chicago Whitesox team. On the other hand, they didn't get this kind of rally over the last week. Maybe they're starting to turn the corner.

Still, there's plenty wrong with the Texas Rangers, and it's clear that things aren't figured out. Hopefully, they took a big step and can carry momentum back to Arlington for a series against a Toronto Bluejays team that has lost three in a row.

Alejandro Osuna impresses in debut for the Texas Rangers

One piece of bad news on Saturday night, despite another loss, was that Joc Pederson was hit by a pitch and suffered a fracture in his hand. That meant that young outfielder Alejandro Osuna got the call after just 7 games in Round Rock.

While he went 0-for-3 at the plate, he did reach base once, drawing a walk. He also had a diving catch on defense that ended an offensive thread.

Certainly it will be interesting to see if Osuna can be a real threat offensively. Manager Bruce Bochy has said he's going to get a chance. It seems he might get more of a chance than Blane Crim did when he got the call.

Rangers say goodbye to Kevin Pillar with DFA

Because Osuna was not on the 40-man roster before Sunday, the Texas Rangers needed to make room, and that wasn't accomplished with Pederson going on the 10-day IL. When Osuna was called up, veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar was Designated For Assignment. There's some time for the team to find a place to deal him, or he could accept the assignment and go to Round Rock. Though that seems unlikely.
