The Texas Rangers are in some serious trouble. While they had their hot streak to get back into the playoff race, they have shifted back into a situation where they're not playing well enough, and they're doing it at the worst possible time.
The Rangers were just two games back of the Houston Astros and the Seattle Mariners when the week started. Unfortunately, they've now lost the first two games of the series and find themselves 4 games back with 10 games to play.
On Tuesday night, Texas did look like it might make a late-inning run. Entering the 8th inning, down 6-1, they scored four to get within a run of the 'Stros. That rally included a pinch-hit RBI single by Adolis Garcia. Unfortunately, that's where the magic ran out, and the Texas Rangers are now among their last chance to make the postseason.
Corey Seager gets Roberto Clemente Award news
Just before Monday's game, MLB announced the candidates for the Roberto Clemente Award. The Rangers announced superstar shortstop Corey Seager had been selected as their nominee for the 2025 version of the award.
The Roberto Clemente Award is one of Major League Baseball's most prestigious honors. It is given annually to a player who demonstrates exceptional character, community involvement, and positive contributions to the game, named after the late Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, who was celebrated both for his play and humanitarian work.
Texas Rangers get an essential reinforcement for the bullpen
While the team is still hanging onto a playoff appearance by a thread, they did get a vital bullpen arm back to try and make that final run. Reliever Danny Coulombe was activated off the IL. He is 2-1 with two saves and a 2.52 ERA in 51 appearances with one start this season for Texas and Minnesota.
He's made 11 relief appearances since being traded to the Rangers on July 31, going 1-1 with a 7.56 ERA. Hopefully, that inflated ERA can be fixed now that he's healthy.
