There was a time when it seemed as if the Texas Rangers’ season was essentially over. There was talk about who the team would deal with and when the selloff would start happening. What a difference a week makes.
Thanks to a seven-day stretch where Bruce Bochy’s club has posted 5 wins in 6 games, the Rangers are playoff contenders again. That’s not just my opinion. The odds are more in the team’s favor than they have been for a while now.
Fangraphs playoff odds climb after Rangers’ 5-1 run with two more vs. struggling White Sox
According to Fangraphs, the Texas Rangers' playoff odds have surged over the last week, rising nine points compared to where they were sitting last Saturday morning. In fact, on June 7, the club’s playoff chances were near a season low at just 16.2% and a 10.1% chance of clinching a wild card spot. This morning, Texas sits with a 25.3% chance of the postseason and a 15.7% chance of getting a wild card berth.
Obviously, the franchise still has its work cut out for it. It’s still not on solid ground, and if the season ended today, they’d be on the outside looking in.
However, it’s undeniable that Texas helped its chances of returning to the playoffs after missing them in 2024.That becomes more important as the franchise would very much not want to look like one that was a “one and done” world champion.
POBO Chris Young would love to build a Texas Rangers franchise that is a repeat postseason contender. To do that, they’ll need to keep turning things around. They'll have a good chance this weekend with two more games against a moribund Chicago Whitesox team.
