We wish we could get Sebastian Walcott in a time machine and get him ready to contribute to the Texas Rangers' major league ballclub right now. With the way this offense continues to sputter, another big bat would be welcomed.
For now, however, fans will have to take solace in the fact that the lithe Bahamian shortstop is continuing to progress at breakneck speed and is on the rise in the latest ESPN rankings of the top 50 minor league players in America.
Texas Rangers prospect keeps impressing everyone
Having already worked his way to Double-AA Frisco, the rangy and athletic Roughrider is slotted in the number 4 spot overall along with two other prized shortstop prospects, Leodalis De Vries with the Padres and Jesus Made in the Brewer pipeline. All three have an FV (Future Value) of over 60, which is the highest grade given.
ESPN's Kiley McDaniel confirms what we have seen in Walcott saying, "Walcott has the most power of the three teen shortstops, with a shot to one day hit 40 homers..."
Walcott is coming off a massive three-game series with Corpus Christi, hammering three home runs that were no-doubters. Walcott continues to show the elite bat speed through the zone that has the organization and fans drooling over what he might become as a big-leaguer
So far this season, Walcott is hitting .238 with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs, and 8 stolen bases in 37 games. He has also shown good plate discipline with 20 walks while slugging at a 401 clip. And we would be remiss if we didn't mention that at only 19, he is one of the youngest Double-A players in the minors.
The extra value he gives the team playing such an important position in defense cannot be overstated. While the Rangers have Corey Seager there for now, Walcott is a nice insurance policy for the future if the oft-injured Seager is not available at any point in 2026 and beyond.
It is also worth noting that no other Ranger prospect cracked the top 50, so Walcott is the prized possession in the pipeline right now.
