The Texas Rangers are now just 2.5 games out of the Wild Card race thanks to a hot streak that defies reality. A team that is one of the most banged-up rosters in the entire American League has started to win more without guys like Nathan Eovaldi, Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Evan Carter. They're winning without Jake Burger at first base and with Ezequiel Duran getting a ton of plate appearances.
There are some Rangers reinforcements expected to arrive in the next few weeks, but the team's pitching staff is both tired and injured, or just coming back from injury. And that means some outside help might be just what the doctor ordered. If Texas wants to give a flyer to someone who could help them continue to defy the odds, Walker Buehler is out there for the taking.
Why the Texas Rangers should consider signing Walker Buehler for stretch run
The Boston Red Sox released Walker Buehler after a season of struggles. However, he's also someone who has put a nice career together and could provide at least a start here or there, or act as a swing man for a Rangers pitching staff that is quite tired at this point in the season.
Buehler has tasted success in his career. He won 14 games in 2019 and 16 games in 2021 for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This year, he's posted a 7-7 record with a 5.45 earned run average.
That might seem like someone the Texas Rangers should stay away from, but he's a low-risk, possible high-reward pickup for the final month of the season. He's also low-cost which makes him someone POBO Chris Young should kick the tires on.
