These 3 minor leaguers should replace these 3 current Rangers to start 2027

The Texas Rangers failed down the stretch and will be on the outside looking in on the postseason for a third straight year. There is a lot wrong with the current iteration of this squad, and a lot of things need fixing. So, with the 2026 season officially in the rearview mirror, let's take a look at some of the young prospects who have made a strong case to replace some of the staid faces still on the major league roster.

There are three players who have no major league experience who will be in Surprise for spring training in February vying to carve out a spot for themselves in the big show. There are also three players who may have a locker at Globe Life Park right now, but could very easily cede it to these upstart young guns.

SS Sebastian Walcott should take Corey Seager's roster spot

We're starting off with a hot take here! But is it really? Walcott is the closest thing the Rangers organization has had to a major league lock in years. Combine that with Seager's inability to play more than 110 games, and it would feel almost foolish not to give the phenom a shot at the shortstop gig for 2027.

The team would have to work with Seager and his representation for the final 5 years of his current 10-year, $325 million deal, but his time in Arlington feels short given the way he struggled for most of the season and fizzled in the most high-leverage final week of the season. It's either Seager or Josh Jung, but the third baseman is younger, cheaper, and had a great season until a calf injury caused him to miss most of the second half.

Walcott returned early from a UCL injury and was even better than before, tearing up Double-A pitching at Frisco. He will be hard to keep off the roster to start if he puts in a solid spring session.

SP Dalton Pence should take Kumar Rocker's roster spot

Dalton Pence just turned in an incredible season at Hub City, Frisco, and Round Rock. He went 6-4, spanning 118.1 innings, sporting a tidy 2.60 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. More importantly, the 23-year-old lefty handled each and every stop smoothly, which is what you're really looking for in up-and-coming pitchers. He also fanned better than a hitter per inning and only gave up 91 hits. He was rewarded for his stellar season with the prestigious Nolan Ryan Award as the system's top hurler.

As for Rocker, what can you say? He has now spent the majority of 2+ seasons in the starting rotation and hasn't shown much. He still doesn't work deep into games and has inexplicable mental lapses as a defender. He has all the tools, so we're not suggesting throwing in the towel on the 26-year-old (he'll be 27 when the 2027 season starts), but give Pence a shot with a good spring to unseat a guy who may still need some time to develop.

Rafe Perich should take Jake Burger's roster spot

Yes, Burger led the team with 28 long balls and 90 RBIs, but his slash was not very impressive at .228/.302/.421, and he is a liability against good right-handed pitchers who can locate on the outside half with off-speed pitches. Defensively, he was a mixed bag with some solid play scooping and digging at first, but he also struggled with pop-ups and making the right choices. The big first baseman will hit arbitration next year, so there is a ton of wiggle room that Chris Young can work with.

Rafe Perich is the reigning Tom Grieve Award winner, which goes to the organization's most valuable minor league player. He slashed .315/.401/.586 between Hub City and Frisco. The switch-hitting corner infielder also mashed 27 homers and 92 RBIs over 444 at-bats. We're serious about bringing in some fresh blood to start the 2027 season, and nobody deserves it more than the most decorated player (outside of Walcott) in the system.

The likelihood of all three of these roster moves happening is not high right now, but we'd settle for one or two of them coming to fruition when the Rangers get back at it in March of 2027. If there's anything the Rangers' fanbase needs right now, it's hope for the future.
