Texas Rangers infielder Corey Seager was recently placed on the 10-day IL due to back soreness. During the much-needed physical and mental break, we've seen a bigger role from Justin Foscue and we like it.
It makes sense as to why. Since the Rangers called him up from Triple-A Round Rock on May 5, Foscue is 11-for-34 (.324) with two home runs, six RBIs, three doubles, .351 on-base percentage and a .939 OPS. And his stats over the last seven days easily lead the team.
What's more is that in the short time he's been with the team, he's already shown the ability to bounce back from some embarrassing moments.
Rangers' infielder knows that he has to fail to succeed
However, the more you look into who Foscue is, the less surprising the bounce back he had was. For the infielder, he strives to be good at failing.
"Getting your first home run is a big deal... And I almost took out the star shortstop. There were a lot of ups and downs," Foscue said following the May 10 game. "It was a big deal for me and probably the greatest moment of my career."
He's been thrown around the Rangers' farm system and the actual team for the past five seasons. A former first-round draft pick, it's finally time for Foscue to make the most of the opportunity he has right now. If he plays well enough in the absence of Seager, he very well might earn a permanent spot in the big leagues.
Wanted to give Justin Foscue some praise for his performance last night.

He went 3-3 with 2 doubles, a HR, a walk, and 3 RBIs.

In the wake of Seager's IL stint, Foscue will also get the opportunity for more reps. Something he's already taken advantage of, he really stole the show during the Rangers series against Colorado. Starting off with a career performance in the first game, he ended with another three hits in which his third of the game to light the spark in the Rangers ninth inning comeback.
We're not even a week into Seager's stint, either. It'll be exciting to see what Foscue will be able to do by the time the Ranger's shortstop comes back. If he's still at his current pace, and Seager gets out of his slump, the team could really have a one-two punch in the infield.
