Yankees' worst hitter finds new way to add insult to Rangers' injury

The Texas Rangers let an unlikely bat burn them for his first career homer, and it’s one they’ll want back.

The Texas Rangers’ season continues to be on the verge of completely spinning out of control. While the starting pitching has been among the best in all of baseball, the offense and now the bullpen constantly lets the club down.

Thursday afternoon has been no different so far as the Rangers and New York Yankees entered the fifth inning engaged in a 0-0 tie with Nathan Eovaldi pitching like the Cy Young candidate he’s been so far this year and Carlos Rodon mowing through the Texas lineup, allowing just two runs.

Rangers' latest lowlight: career first homer allowed to unlikely slugger

And then the bottom of the fifth happened and Eovaldi lost focus just a little. And allowed the Yanks’ worst hitter on the team … by far … to take a pitch and deposit it into the right field bleachers to give his team a 1-0 lead. Count Jorbit Vivas among the reasons why Texas Rangers fans can be extremely frustrated by whatever is going on with this team in 2025.

When I say “worst hitter” you might think it’s not that bad considering New York has one of the best offenses in baseball. However, Vivas isn’t just one of the worst on the team, he’d be one of the worst in the bigs, if he qualified.

Coming into the game, the second baseman has made 16 appearances and posted a .156/.250/.188/.438 slashline. You’re reading that right, he has a .188 slugging percentage.

His homer on Thursday afternoon in cold and wet conditions was the first of his career. And since that “blast” Rodon has so far allowed that single solo run to stand up as the Texas Rangers are in danger of getting swept in the Bronx.
