Texas Rangers have acquired Carlos Beltran from the New York Yankees in exchange for last years 4th overall pick Dillon Tate and 2 more prospects.

The Texas Rangers needed some help in the outfield with Shin-Soo Choo being out of the lineup for some time and Carlos Beltran provides a veteran presence to an already stacked lineup. He is 39 but is batting .304 this year and 22 hrs (that means Rougned Odor needs to catch up to take the team lead back). Beltran is not the quickest in the field but will provide enough defense and absolutely will pickup any shortcomings with his offense.

The Texas Rangers seem to be ahead of the curve on when to give up on a player. It would appear that Dillon Tate was a really good college player but has had extreme difficulties adjusting to life in the MLB. This early in his career may be the time that his trade value is the absolute highest and the Texas Rangers should be applauded for not being afraid to pull the trigger on this trade.

Not only do the Texas Rangers get to add a great player to a lineup that looks to be finding their power once again but they also keep Beltran away from a contending team in the Cleveland Indians. The Rangers may not be done with less than an hour left before this trade deadline, they may be looking to get Jonathan Lucroy or help for the pitching staff as well.

Now from the fan side of it I would like to suggest that maybe the Texas Rangers are hoping for the magic that Beltran brings with him. In 2011 Beltran was traded to the San Fransico Giants right at the deadline and they went on to eventually beat the Texas Rangers in the World Series. With both teams seeming to get their composure back after the All-Star Break, let’s hope that this move flips the script and maybe sets up the best revenge for that championship loss.

What do you think of the move and are you prepared to maybe not have a player like Jurickson Profar or Nomar Mazara on the roster tomorrow?
