The Texas Rangers have placed Sam Dyson on the 10-day disabled list. As a result, relief pitcher Keone Kela has been recalled from AAA Round Rock.

According to MLB.com’s TR Sullivan, Dyson is on the DL due to a right-hand contusion.  It’s been a rough start for Dyson. He’s 0-3 with three blown saves, allowing 13 runs in only 4.1 innings of pitching. At the moment, he’s not the pitcher he was last season and certainly not the pitcher that helped Team USA bring home the World Baseball Classic title last month, which he pitched in the final against Puerto Rico to help the US seal their victory. In other words, he’s in a slump. However, as far as possibly getting out of his slump? It’s not impossible. He just needs to take a few steps back and pick himself up.

Kela’s recalling is a golden opportunity for him. His failure to make the Opening Day roster was surprising, indeed. However, according to Chris Bahr, Kela’s behavior is the reason for his failure to make the roster and has nothing to with his performance during Spring Training.

Kela is lucky to get a recall so soon. Kela is coming off a good 2016 season, finishing 5-1 with 6.05 ERA in 35 appearances, striking out 45 batters in 34 innings, though he did miss some time to an elbow injury. Since 2015, he’s been one of the brightest stars in the bullpen.

Kela is going to be with the club tonight as they begin their series against the Oakland Athletics in Oakland. As far as him playing, it’s uncertain at the moment. He is likely to begin during this series.

As said earlier, Kela is very lucky to be back to the majors this quick. When it comes to being demoted due to attitude issues, the opportunity to be return to the main roster doesn’t come that quick.

Kela needs to take his golden opportunity very seriously. There’s no doubt, fans and the team is excited for him to be back. The bullpen is 1-5 with only one save in six chances and an ERA of 6.27. In any case, Kela needs to be ready and focused. For now, they can only hope that he learned his lesson.
