Breaking Down the Rangers Second Half

The Texas Rangers have had a bad first half of the season, and that is an understatement. The Texas Rangers are 38-57 through their first 95 games. There are (if I did my math correctly) 67 games left in the season, so what can we realistically expect from the Texas Rangers in those last 67 games? Can they finish the season at .500? I don’t that that is realistic, but they can finish the second half of the season above .500 if some things go right. Things don’t have to go as right in the second half as they went wrong in the first half for the Texas Ranger to have a successful second half. Here is what I hope is going to happen.

Record: 37-30

The rest of July is going to be tough, admittedly. The Texas Rangers have the Blue Jays, The Yankees, The Athletics and then the Yankees again. In those 13 games, I think the Texas Rangers should go 5-8. They will take one from the Blue Jays, three from the Yankees and one from the Athletics.

August the Texas Rangers should go 17-11. They are playing the Astros for seven (5-2), The Indians (2-1) and the Whitesox (2-1), the Rays for 4 (2-2), The Mariners for three (1-2), also the Angels (1-2) Marlins (2-0) and the Royals for three (2-1). The Texas Rangers have the talent, all they have to do is put it together and have decent pitching and they can have a pretty good August.

September is much harder to predict because of all of the September callups, but I am going to say they finish strong with a 14-12 record, giving them a 37-30 record for  the last 67 games.

MVP:

I am going to have to say Adrian Beltre will be the Texas Rangers second half MVP. He has shown no signs of slowing down at the plate or at third base, and I feel like he is going to carry this offense for a little while longer before some of his teammates join in. He is such a great player and he is the leader of this team, and if they follow Adrian, then this team may be even better in the second half than I predicted.

Pitcher of the Year:

Yu Darvish has probably already won this even if he doesn’t pitcher another game. He will finish with a sub-three ERA, he will finish with the league lead in strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings, and he will lead the Texas Rangers in wins with 13. There is not much else to say about Darvish, he is the one constant that we all love and can count on every fifth day

Rookie of the Year:

May 24, 2014; Detroit, MI, USA; Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor (73) hits a two RBI triple in the fourth inning against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Mandatory Credit: Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Rougned Odor has proven to everyone that at the age of 20, he is ready to be an everyday second baseman in the big leagues. Every time I watch him play he impresses me. Great kid, great baseball player, he is fearless at the plate and on the field.

So those are my predictions for the second half. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments section below, or on twitter of facebook!
