Texas Rangers call up Top Prospect Joey Gallo
As we all know by now, the Rangers were dealt a blow. Adrian Beltre is headed to the disabled list with an injured thumb. Luckily it will only be for 2 weeks. The Texas Rangers have called up their top prospect, Joey Gallo to fill his shoes. Yes, filling those shoes are next to impossible but it is only for 2 weeks.
Who is Joey Gallo?
I’ll keep this short and sweet since Rangers fans know who he is. Gallo, 21, is the Rangers top prospect after a strong 2014 performance. Gallo plays third base and will slide into Beltre’s spot and should provide at least average defense. Gallo was drafted by the Rangers in the 2012 with the 39th overall selection. He is known for his power and he has plenty of it. He is the future 3rd baseman of the Rangers.
What do the numbers say?
This year in 34 games with the Frisco RoughRiders, Gallo is hitting .314 with 9 home runs and 31 RBI.
Take a look at some of Gallo’s numbers below.

As you can see, there is a high strike out rate. Yes, that is worrisome but the on base percentage is not. Also look at those home run totals. If that doesn’t excite you I don’t know what will!

Are the Rangers making the right move?
I was really hoping that the Rangers would call him up. Now I’m not Jon Daniels or part of his scouting team but will 2 weeks in the majors really destroy you as a player if you do not have success? I’m not so sure, only time will tell. A lot of people say that he isn’t ready due to his high strike out rate at double A. Some say that the time is now. I think this is the right move.
The Rangers are only 5 1/2 games out of first place right now at 26-25. Apparently they feel that Gallo gives us the best chance to win games in Beltre’s absence. With the way the offense is performing, Gallo will not have the same level of pressure that he would have had if he had been called up in April. Say what you want but this will bring more excitement to the Dallas area and sell more seats. I know I for one am excited to get a glimpse of what Gallo has to offer. Let’s all enjoy this! It’s only going to last about 2 weeks.
Be sure to take the poll and tell us how you feel about Joey Gallo being called up in the comment section below.
