The Texas Rangers continued their Spring Training success with a 10-3 win over division rival Oakland.

Texas packed their bags Tuesday and made the trip to Mesa, AZ for their first meeting against the Oakland Athletics. Derek Holland got the start on the mound for the Rangers in the big win. This marks his second appearance of Spring Training and he went 3 innings, giving up 2 unearned runs on 3 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts. This moves Holland to 2-0 so far with two solid outings this year.

Jeremy Guthrie, who’s been dealing with some back issues, returned to action for Texas and threw 2 scoreless innings surrendering 2 hits and 1 strikeout. With Guthrie likely to play a role of significance in the coming season, his first outing was a good view of what the Texas Rangers may have to look forward in the upcoming season.

The Rangers were led offensively by centerfielder Delino DeShields who went 2-3 with a single and a triple as well as two RBIs. DeShields has been hot this Spring Training going 5-10 to start off, with two of his hits being for extra bases. Brett Nicholas also made an offensive splash as well blasting his second homerun of Spring Training which leads Texas. Ryan Rua’s hitting streak came to an end as he was 7 for his past 7 at-bats but went 1-2 in the game.

Injury Report

Young second baseman, Rougned Odor was scratched prior to Tuesday’s game start because of back tightness however it isn’t expected to be serious.
