61. 11. 126. Final. 5

On Wednesday, the Texas Rangers handled the Cincinnati Reds in a 11-5 win in Arizona.

As the Texas Rangers continue their Spring Training journey, they rolled the Cincinnati Reds to continue their hot streak. Chi Chi Gonzalez started the game for the Rangers and pitched 3 innings giving up no runs on 3 hits and 2 walks. This is a great outing for Gonzalez who is on a quest to lockdown the fifth spot in the pitching rotation for Texas. Gonzalez showed good use of the sinker producing effective and efficient ground balls.

Lefty Cesar Ramos, also a contender for that fifth spot in the rotation, pitched for Texas on Wednesday. He threw 3 scoreless innings as well and gave up only 1 hit. As a number of pitchers compete for this final spot, the Texas Rangers are seeing that their pitching staff seems to be pretty deep headed into 2016 even without the injured Yu Darvish.

Offensively, Texas exploded for 3 homeruns on the day with first baseman Mitch Moreland hitting his first of the spring. Newly acquired left fielder, Ian Desmond also hit one out on the day before being replaced by Drew Stubbs who tacked on the third long ball of the day. Jurickson Profar got the start at shortstop in yesterday’s contest and went 1-3 with an RBI.

In the outfield, Ian Desmond has now played 18 innings in left field since the start of Spring Training and has yet to receive a flyball opportunity. This can point to a positive however showing that Texas pitchers may be doing a better of job keeping the ball on the ground compared to recent years.

Injury Update

Second baseman Rougned Odor is still day-to-day with the strained right oblique he suffered Tuesday during batting practice. Closer Shawn Tolleson is scheduled to throw a bullpen soon as he tries to return from lower back stiffness.
