The offense never gets going as the Texas Rangers fall 5-2 on the evening of St. Patrick’s Day.

The luck of the Irish was not with the Texas Rangers offense on this St. Patrick’s day evening, as the boys fall 5-2 to Milwaukee. The game began with Nick Tepesch struggling as the starter, getting through only 2 1/3 innings, and giving up all 5 of Milwaukee’s runs. The 5 run deficit proved too much for the Rangers’ offense, which  managed only 4 hits on the evening.

The relief crew for the Texas Rangers fared far better than the starter, as they combined to pitch the last 6 2/3 innings in shutout fashion. Shawn Tolleson made his first big league appearance of the spring, pitching 1 inning and allowing 1 hit. Andrew Faulkner also continued his outstanding spring, by adding 2 more shutout innings to his spotless spring resume. Faulkner is making a very strong case to make the team as the 2nd lefty out of the bullpen instead of Sam Freeman.

Texas Rangers outfielder Ian Desmond also made his debut in center field. The night didn’t start well for Desmond, as he was charged with a missed catch error on his first chance in center field. However, the rest of the evening went more smoothly as Desmond deftly handled the final couple chances he received.

On the offensive side of the box score, the highlights for the Texas Rangers were limited. Minor league veteran Alex Burg drove in both of the Rangers’ runs with a 6th inning double. Top prospect Joey Gallo also continued his mid-spring surge by reaching base in both of his plate appearances. Getting hit by a pitch in his first plate appearance, and cracking a loud single to right in the 9th inning. As a result, Gallo has now reached base in 12 of his last 19 plate appearances.

Texas Rangers prospect Ryan Cordell hurt his right ankle while running to first and will be evaluated on Friday.
