The Texas Rangers dropped a Cactus League game on Sunday to their division rivals, the Los Angeles Angels.

In the Rangers most recent Spring Training game, Nick Martinez got the start on the mound and took the loss against the Angels. Martinez went 4 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 7 hits and striking out 5. All in all it was a good start for Martinez as he tries to become the Texas Rangers fifth starter.

Rangers closer got some work out of the bullpen on Sunday throwing 2/3 of an inning where he gave up 1 run on 1 hit and walked 3 Angels. Along with Tolleson, Andrew Faulkner got some work in on the mound throwing 2 scoreless innings for the Rangers and giving up just 1 hit.

Defensively the Rangers struggled committing 5 errors, 3 of which came before they had recorded 4 outs. Jurickson Profar committed two of those errors at shortstop one of which allowed Albert Pujols to score early on.

Ian Desmond got the start in center field and went 1-3 at the plate. The lone Texas run of the game came off the bat of Ryan Rua who hit a solo homerun in the fourth inning.

Player Moves

The Texas Rangers made some personnel moves on Monday according to John Blake, the Rangers Executive Vice President of Communications. The Rangers assigned young prospects Lewis Brinson and Ryan Cordell to minor league camp as well as Drew Robinson and Francisco Mendoza. They optioned a number of players to Round Rock including pitchers Alex Claudio and Anthony Ranaudo. Jurickson Profar, Joey Gallo, and Nomar Mazara also were optioned to Round Rock which means they will not start the season on the big league roster.

These moves weren’t unexpected because of the level of play that the Rangers have seen from players over Spring Training.

Injury Report
