Colby Lewis led the Texas Rangers back to a .500 record with a 7-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.

On The Mound

Colby Lewis picked up his first win of the 2016 season for the Texas Rangers in a stellar performance against the Seattle Mariners on Monday. Lewis went 6 innings allowing only 1 run on 4 hits and tallying 6 strikeouts. Lewis was paired with catcher Brett Nicholas and the two showed good chemistry in arguably the best start by a Rangers pitcher all year. The bullpen continued to be strong as promised holding onto the win for the Texas Rangers. Keone Kela was the only hiccup for Texas out of the ‘pen allowing 2 runs on 1 hit. Despite this, Andrew Faulkner, Sam Dyson and Jake Diekman all put together scoreless outings allowing just a combined 2 hits.

At The Plate

The Rangers shined at the plate against Seattle, tallying 14 hits on the day. Rougned Odor led off for Texas and drove in 3 runs on 2 hits. Rookie Nomar Mazara kept his bat hot in his second Major League start going 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

The bottom three hitters in the order all recorded multi-hit games with Elvis Andrus going 2-4, Ryan Rua going 3-4, and Brett Nicholas going 2-4 with a double. The bottom three also combined to score 4 of the Rangers 7 runs.

Other Notes

Brett Nicholas, who was brought up by the Texas Rangers to replace injured Robinson Chirinos, had an impressive day both offensively and defensively. At the plate, Nicholas went 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Behind the dish, Nicholas caught a good ballgame and starter Colby Lewis said he was comfortable with the rookie catching. Nicholas also recorded his first throw out of his career throwing out a runner trying to swipe second.
